New Exercise and Fitness Review

Summer is the perfect opportunity to get moving  - the sun’s shining and the days are longer! It’s a chance for us to get outside and try out new ways to get fit! Here are our top 7 summer workouts and the best places to give them a go:

1. With Wimbledon in full swing why not grab a racquet and start knocking a few balls around! It offers a full-body workout plus the opportunity to have fun with a partner or friends. Many local parks have their own courts which are either free or great value. Both Regent’s Park and Hyde Park in central London offer a number of courts in stunning surroundings, perfect for a post-game cool-down walk!

2. Want to cool down and get fit? Try swimming! The perfect cardiovascular workout gets your blood pumping but doesn’t put too much pressure on any joints. Find your local lido online – they offer great pay-as-you-go sessions. My favourites are the swimming ponds at Hampstead Heath and Tooting Bec Lido.

3. If you fancy working up a sweat pounding the pavements, why not take up running? Another great cardio workout, it’s certain to tone up those legs ready to get them out this summer. Either team up with a friend to share the experience or join one of the many running clubs across the country – Nike running club offers programmes for free for all levels. If you’re feeling especially motivated why not sign up for a 5K or 10k race to motivate you to get training.

4. Park bootcamps will most certainly get you moving, sweating and working every muscle in your body. A combo of sprints, squats and press-ups are just a few of the exercises that will challenge your body. I would highly recommend British Military Fitness if you’re after an intense outdoor training session. With over 130 different locations in the UK, there is bound to be a class near you.

5. If you like a dose of sunshine (who doesn’t?) with your regular yoga practice, then try outdoor yoga. In fact, go one step further and try We Heart Living’s Rooftop Yoga this summer. Yep, that’s right, not only can you lap up some vitamin D while doing your downward dogs, but you’ll also get to take in a magnificent view of London at the same time.

6. Rooftop yoga is definitely having a moment, and if you’re not in the capital this summer then you can enjoy panoramic views of Bristol’s skyline at a rooftop yoga session at The OfficeGroup, Bristol. Get your downward dog on as you enjoy the relaxing scenery and boost your flexibility. All abilities welcome at this fantastic lunchtime session.

7. Finally, ff you’re after a slightly calmer way to stay fit this summer why not make the most of your local area and take up walking. I don’t mean a slow, lazy walk but a brisk, steady pace making the most of any hills that you may come across. Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill are ideal walking spots and you will certainly find yourself working your bum and legs as you take in the sights.
