Ronda Rousey versus Sara McMann at UFC 170

New Exercise and Fitness Review

Ronda Rousey is possibly the most sought-after woman in sports right now, and the Olympic bronze medallist’s level of stardom has been on a constant rise since her UFC debut a year ago.

The exciting fighter has made such an impact – through her talent and charisma – that she has already had Hollywood calling, having landed herself roles in action blockbusters The Expendables 3 and Fast & Furious 7.

Since making the transition from judo to mixed martial arts in 2010, the 27-year-old has looked simply unstoppable. She has finished every single one of her MMA bouts by her signature armbar submission move in breath-taking fashion, and will undoubtedly go down in history as a true pioneer of the sport.

Although her previous opponents – which include Liz Carmouche, Sarah Kaufman and Miesha Tate – were nothing short of world-class, they didn’t quite possess the big-stage experience that Rousey had acquired from competing at two Olympic Games; the latter of which saw her snap up the bronze medal in judo for the USA.

But Rousey’s next opponent, Sara McMann, whom she faces this Saturday 22nd February at UFC 170, also has an Olympic medal to her name – a silver in wrestling from the 2004 Summer Games. Could McMann finally bring to the Octagon the wealth of experience needed to give Rousey a run for her money?

Neither fighter has a mark in the loss column so far, with Rousey boasting a record of 8 wins and McMann close at her heels with 7. On paper, this meeting is set to be one of the most exciting female MMA bouts in history: two undefeated, elite mixed martial artists – both former-Olympians – fighting for the UFC bantamweight title. Headlining a pay-per-view event, no less.

Regardless of the outcome, we’re expecting fireworks this weekend.

UFC 170 is live on BT Sport this Saturday 22nd February from 1am
